Spring Skiing & Pleasure: The 4 Best Terraces in the Valley

2 min read

Imagine this: the March sun tickles the tip of your nose, the snow glitters like millions of tiny diamonds and the firn crunches under your skis. It's that very special time of year – spring skiing in the Zillertal. When the days get longer, temperatures rise and lunch at the mountain hut becomes more important than the number of piste kilometres, it's time to indulge.

Here in Aschau im Zillertal, we sit right at the source of happiness. Located between the top ski resorts of Hochzillertal-Hochfügen and the Zillertal Arena, our Goldmarie apartment house is your perfect base camp for culinary highlights on the mountain.

So you don't have to search for long, I've put together my personal highlights for the perfect mountain stop. Pack your sunscreen – here are the best terraces in the valley!

1. Lifestyle & Beats: Kristallhütte (Hochzillertal)

The Kristallhütte is legendary – and for very good reason. At 2,147 metres altitude, you'll find not only a fantastic 360-degree view, but also chilled DJ beats and cosy daybeds on the terrace. Modern lifestyle meets Tyrolean warmth. My tip: definitely try the Kaiserschmarrn while soaking up the sun in a deck chair.

2. Gourmet Heaven: Weidelhütte (Hochfügen)

Just a stone's throw (or a short run) away lies the Wedelhütte. It houses the highest wine cellar in the Alps and a terrace that combines elegance and cosiness. If you're looking for mountain luxury, this is the place. A glass of Austrian quality wine and the view of the three-thousand-metre peaks – that's spring skiing perfection.

3. Italian Flair: Albergo (Kaltenbach)

Fancy 'La Dolce Vita' in the middle of the Alps? The Albergo at the mountain station of the Wimbachexpress offers the finest Italian cuisine on one of the valley's most stylish terraces. From homemade pasta to fine fish – up here you almost forget you're actually here to ski. The architecture is modern, the view spectacular.

4. Rustic Cosiness: Larmach-Alm (Zillertal Arena)

For those who love the classics: the Larmach-Alm on the Königsleiten side of the Zillertal Arena is famous for its roast chicken and the huge sun terrace right on the piste. The atmosphere is pure mountain hut fun. It's the ideal spot to put your feet up and recharge after an extensive tour of the Arena.
