The Zillertal Activcard: is it worth buying for you?
Sooner or later, everyone planning a holiday in the Zillertal comes across it: the Zillertal Activcard. A single card bundling cable car rides, swimming pool entry, bus journeys and much more – and depending on your travel style, it’s either a genuine bargain or an overpriced extra. I’ll be straight with you: the Activcard doesn’t automatically make sense for everyone.
Here I’ll explain exactly what’s included, what it costs, and how to work out for yourself whether it’s worth it for your trip.
1. What is the Zillertal Activcard – and what’s included?
The Zillertal Activcard is a guest card available through many accommodations in the Zillertal. Depending on the version, it’s valid for 3, 6 or 7 days and includes: unlimited rides on all Zillertal cable cars (Hochzillertal, Penken, Ahorn, Zillertal Arena and others), the Zillertalbahn and all bus routes in the valley, entry to swimming facilities including the Erlebnistherme Zillertal, discounts on attractions such as the Schwazer Silberbergwerk, and various partner offers.
2. What does the Activcard cost – and when does it pay off?
The price varies by season and card version. In summer, the 7-day adult card is roughly equivalent to three to four individual cable car day tickets. There are cheaper rates for children. The card clearly pays off if you: want to use the cable cars multiple times, regularly ride the Zillertalbahn, plan to visit the thermal spa, and are staying for at least 5–7 days.
3. Who is it less worthwhile for?
If you’re only in the Zillertal for 2–3 days, mainly walking without using cable cars, and have no interest in the thermal spa or indoor pool, the Activcard usually doesn’t make financial sense. Individual tickets will be more economical in that case. Also factor in rainy days when you might not use many activities at all.
4. Where and how do you get the Activcard?
The Activcard is available directly through many Zillertal accommodations and online via the official Zillertal website. Some accommodations offer it as an optional add-on at booking. Important: always check the current price list at zillertal.com directly, as the included services and prices can change from season to season.
