Spring Awakening – The Most Beautiful Spring Walks Around Aschau im Zillertal

When the first crocuses push through the last remnants of snow and the air smells of fresh earth and awakening nature, spring has finally arrived in the Zillertal. This magical transition period – when the mountains still gleam white while the valley floors are bathed in the first green of the year – is one of the most beautiful times to be in Aschau.

Here are my favourite spring walks, all starting right from our Goldmarie apartment house or just a short drive away.

1. The Aschau Valley Walk – Easy & Relaxed

The flat valley walk along the Ziller river is the perfect introduction to spring hiking. The path meanders through meadows bursting with wildflowers, past traditional Tyrolean farmsteads and alongside the crystal-clear glacial waters of the Ziller. Suitable for all ages, including families with pushchairs.

2. Up to the Rosenalm – Where Spring Meets Winter

For those who want a bit more elevation, the trail up to the Rosenalm offers stunning views of the valley. In spring, you experience a fascinating contrast: while down below the fruit trees are already blossoming, up here patches of snow still linger between the trees. The Rosenalm hut offers refreshments with a beautiful panoramic terrace.

3. Circular Walk Around Kaltenbach

This gentle circular route through the villages of Kaltenbach and Stumm is a lovely way to discover the traditional Zillertal farmhouse architecture. The walk passes through apple and pear orchards that are just beginning to blossom in spring, creating a picture-perfect landscape of white blossoms against the snowy mountain backdrop.
