Skiing in April: How to Enjoy the Season Finale in the Zillertal

When the birds in the valley are already quietly chirping in spring, but up on the peaks the perfect 'White Carpet' is still waiting for you, the most beautiful time of year begins for me: the season finale.

Here is your guide to the perfect spring skiing and the last run of winter.

1. The 'Golden Hour' on the Stephan-Eberharter Gold Piste

If you really want to feel the White Carpet, you need to get up early. My tip: use the valley run to Kaltenbach (Hochzillertal) right at lift opening. The Stephan-Eberharter Gold Piste is a revelation in the morning. When the grip is perfect and you feel the wind in your face, you know exactly why we love skiing so much.

2. Firn Bliss at the Weidelhütte

As the sun climbs higher, the White Carpet transforms into finest firn. This is the time for a mountain stop at the highest level. The terrace of the Wedelühtte is the prime spot. Grab a deck chair, enjoy the view of the three-thousand-metre peaks and let the spring sun warm your face.

3. The Altitude Devourer: Austria's Longest Valley Run

In the Zillertal Arena, a true test of stamina awaits you: the 'Höhenfresser Tour'. With 1,930 metres of vertical descent in one go, it leads from the Übergangsjoch all the way down to Zell am Ziller. In spring it's a fascinating experience to start in powder snow at the top and arrive in soft spring snow at the bottom.

4. Viewpoint 'Übergangsjoch'

Before you start your last run, take a short stop at the Übergangsjoch at 2,500 metres. The view stretches from the Kitzbühel Alps to the glaciated giants of the Zillertal Alps. It's the perfect spot for a final season selfie before you feel the 'White Carpet' beneath you.

After your ski day, you simply head back 'home', hang your ski boots in our ski room and perhaps enjoy a coffee on your sunny balcony overlooking the mountains you just conquered.
